DAY 17 - GREZ-SUR-LOING TO CHÂTEAU-LANDON

This was a long but very enjoyable day's walk, mostly on the long-distance paths GR3B and GR13.

We started by discovering that Robert Louis Stevenson had once spent several months in Grez-sur-Loing, had written about the place, and had met his wife there. We left the town by crossing over the old bridge and following the Loing Canal until it merged into the Loing River just short of the town of Nemours.

At Nemours we turned into the GR13, which crossed back over the Loing and rose to a lookout above the town.

The path then took us on a very winding route through the forest, eventually taking us to the village of Poligny, where we found a restaurant to have our coffee break. By this stage we had covered about 18 kilometres, perhaps 5 more than if we had travelled by more direct roads.

Walking through the forest
From Poligny we continued on the GR13 towards the town of Souppes-sur-Loing, taking to the roads for a shortcut as we approached the town. Through Souppes, we rejoined the GR13 as it crossed the Loing on a disused railway bridge, the followed it along the Loing Canal for a while before a last turn up to Château-Landon, our destination for the night.
