DAY 15 - PONTHIERRY TO FONTAINEBLEAU-AVON

A very pleasant day walking through fields and forest in bright sunshine.

After arriving at the station where we left off yesterday, we walked through the villages of Ponthierry and Pringy, and then plotted a path through fields of rapeseed and vegetable crops to the village of Chailly-en-Bière. Here we had our traditional stop in a bar, only this time we had coffee instead of hot chocolate.

Walking through the fields
There was a flea market in the village, with large crowds looking at the numerous stalls of bric-a-brac, books and  clothes. We walked through the market on our way out of the village, and soon came to the western edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau. This part of the forest reminded us of the area around Tenterfield in New South Wales - granite boulders and scrubby vegetation. There was even a snake scurrying off the path ahead of us to remind us of home.

Granite boulders in the Forest of Fontainebleau - so much easier walking without the backpack
After a few kilometres walking and scrambling through the bush, we found an appropriately sized log to have our lunch break.

An appropriately-sized log for lunch
Lunch consisted, as on most days of our trip, of a cheese sandwich. We have already tried lots of different cheeses. Today's was Saint-Marcellin, creamy and delicious.

After our lunch stop we made our way to the train station at Fontainebleau-Avon, from where we will continue our trip, laden with full backpacks, tomorrow.
