DAY 5 - LA NEUVILLE-CHANT-D'OISEL TO ST-PIERRE-DU-VOUVRAY

A day of many milestones: the first 100 kilometres, the first crossing from one Department  (Seine-Maritime) to another (Eure), and our first views of the Seine.

100 kilometres walked -a shameless selfie to celebrate

After the traditional fantastic breakfast (this one at La Parenthèse Normande in La Neuville-Chant-d'Oisel), we hit the road. After a few kilometres we reached the first 100 km of the trip, and took a shameless selfie to celebrate.

First view of the Seine - above Amfreville-sous-les-Monts

We then found a footpath to take us down to Pont-St-Pierre, a large village where we bought our baguette for the day. Then it was up and over another hill to catch our first glimpse of the Seine where our road met the GR2. This path follows the route of the Seine from its source near Dijon to Le Havre, where it flows into the English Channel.  We intend to follow it through Paris to Melun before taking another route south.

Descending towards the river - only to take a left turn and climb the hill for another vantage point

The stretch of the GR2 along this part of the river seems to be designed to capture as many vantage points of the river as possible. We found ourselves dropping steeply, almost to river level, before climbing again to take advantage of another spectacular lookout.

Path along the Seine at Herqueville

We left the GR2 to cross the river to get to our night's accommodation, finding off-road paths to take us most of the way.
