DAY 58 - SISTERON (REST DAY)

RANDOM REST-DAY RAMBLINGS

Sheep dogs: In summer many of the high passes we've been visiting are grazed by sheep.  Big white dogs guard the sheep from wolves.  The advice is to just keep walking around the flock and so far we haven't had any problems.  One of our hosts said that insurance won't pay out if you don't have a guard dog.  She hadn't heard of guard alpacas.

Equipment : Russell has one loose strap on his backpack and our shoes are worn.  We replaced mine but Russell is persisting with his.

On our rest day in Sisteron we had a very leisurely breakfast, still managing to eat a lot even though today we weren't walking much. We then replenished our microporous tape supplies - alas, our feet haven't toughened up as we had hoped - before exploring the fortifications at Sisteron.

We then had a three course lunch before heading back to our accommodation for an afternoon nap...a perfect rest day!

  1. Fascinated with the shoe photos. That’s what 'day in day out' walking will do, I suppose. Ours still look pristine. Manny is finding that he is feeling hot spots after the 10km mark. We are trying the micropore on our next walk. Now that I have the lambs wool insoles, I seem very comfortable. Next walk will be 17kms up in Lamington National Park. Love to you both.

    1. The shoes were fine for the first 800km but I guess they have a life. The heel lining separation had started on the other heel too, and the rubbing was wearing out my socks.

  2. What a great rest day by the look of your photos. I noticed there are none of you napping, so I will have to take your word that you did indeed nap.....hard to believe though. Looks like you two are having a fantastic time, not much further to go now.
