A fairly routine day under sunny skies. We set off early, as we had a lot of ground to cover. We joined the GR653D and were soon into our stride.
Heading out from Les Bernards under sunny skies |
There was the usual combination of mountain views into the distance and colourful flowers up close.
By the side of the GR653D between Chorges and Montgardin |
After passing through the villages of Chorges and Montgardin we came across a volunteer touching up the white and red path sign markings for the GR. We had a bit of a chat, and he agreed to demonstrate his technique for our blog:

We continued on the recently-marked GR for a little, turning off onto another path which took us more directly the way we wanted to go.
Water crossing on the path |
Shortly after leaving the GR, and 15 kilometres into the day's walk, we stopped for some healthy morning tea.
Healthy raspberries and apple - today's morning tea |
Although the path we were on wasn't a GR, it did involve a steady climb. We rejoined the GR near the top of a hill (which it had climbed via a more circuitous route) for the descent into Rambaud. We sat be a water fountain in the village for lunch before moving on.
Going up towards Rambaud |
From Rambaud we stayed on the GR653D for the descent/ascent/descent into Gap.
Along the GR653D between Rambaud and Gap |
We had a wander around the streets of Gap before heading out for several kilometres towards our hotel along a marked footpath by the main road.
Coming into Gap |
Passing through the old town of Gap |
The main road through Gap - one lane each way for motor vehicles, one lane each way for cyclists, a pedestrian lane, and a lane for local traffic |
